Our Leadership and Strong Voice Builds Volunteerism

Volunteer BC achieves the goal of promoting the development and value of volunteerism by participating in many networks and working with other national and regional organizations, including Volunteer Canada, Administrators of Volunteer Resources ( AVRBC), the Social Planning & Research Council of BC (SPARC BC) and Learning Initiatives for Rural and Northern BC (LIRN).

WE ARE AN ACTIVE LEADER ON KEY ISSUES IMPACTING VOLUNTEERISM:

Screening – Worked with local Members of Parliament, the Ministry of Justice and AVRBC to establish free, online screening for all BC volunteers working with children or vulnerable adults through the Criminal Record Review Program.

New Society Act – Developed response to the proposed Society Act, calling attention to key provisions that would negatively impact volunteerism. Several Volunteer BC recommendations led to changes in the New Act, passed November 2015.

Emergency Volunteers – Works with Volunteer Centres and municipal/provincial emergency planning bodies to find effective ways to engage convergent volunteers as they respond to emergencies and disasters.
